I wonder if anyone else has had a bad experience when reconstructed with an implant?? First attempt a Becker expandable implant was inserted but unfortunately when they began the inflation it was discovered the implant was in the wrong place and was just under my collar bone. At this first operation they did reduction and uplift of the other good breast. This surgery resulted in extensive scarring and loss of nipple sensation. The surgeon instructed Doctors to inflate the too high implant to twice the manufacturers recommendations. I then returned to have a second operation to remove the implant and have a silicone implant inserted and at the same time the surgeon did an abdominal flap which was to anchor down the implant and also to bulk out the lower pole of the breast. After 6 months I noticed a large reduction in size of the second implant and felt it had shifted position. I returned to the doctor who sent me for MRI to see if the implant was leaking - which they said it was not and told me not to worry as the implant was probably just settling into position and not to worry! From this time I began to wear a prosthesis as the size was considerably smaller. 2 yrs on I discover I have loose flesh over the implant site and the implant feels like it is on my lower ribs. The consultant says the implant has deflated and the abdominal flap has collapsed. To add to this the area below my shoulder where the implant was inflated is hugely swollen and has never decreased in size. My other reduced/uplifted breast has ptosis (droop)and I am now feeling like a freak! The whole reconstruction has been a complete failure - not once but twice. I am now faced with having to go back for further surgery. I am considering asking the surgeon to take the implant out , make the area good and leave me well alone. The idea of the reconstruction was to improve the look - not make it worse. I would be interested to hear how other people would react to this situation. Thanks Debbie x |
